Sweet potato fries are very similar to potato fries, only better. The sweetness of the sweet potatoes provides a nice base for experimentation with various spices. The rich orange color of the vegetable makes it a pleasure for the eyes too. This is one dish that is a feast for your eyes and stomach.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Baking the fries in the oven is an easier option than frying, especially when you are doing a big patch. It is a great dish for a party that comes together with very little effort. I made this with South Indian flavors (using the ubiquitous sambar podi), you can add any spice of your choice.

Ingredients

  • Sweet potato – 3
  • Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
  • Sambar podi – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp

Directions

Pre-heat the oven to 400 C. And then proceed to peel the skin off the sweet potato and cut it into thick strips that are 2-3 inches long.

Make a paste of coconut oil + sambar podi + salt and mix it well with the cut strips of sweet potato. Ensure all the strips are coated well with this paste and transfer it to a baking tray.

Place the tray in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes.

Turn the sweet potato pieces at this point and bake for another 7 minutes.
